Ani's11 septiembre jUST THE sAME oR wORSE... finished another counselling session… I walk to the cafeteria for a quick lunch... it’s 14h38m...
The odd environment, silent and staggered, of the usual groups of students that come to study here… eyes glazing at the television standing of the ceiling in the corner of the room…
- What Happened? Why is everyone staring at the tv? – I ask the waiter – what is that on fire?
- It’s New York, there’s been a terrorist attempt!! – says the incredulous man, eyes glazing at the screen – two planes crashed against the Twin Towers!!
- When?
- Now, just now!!
I feel the blood burning in my veins... I’ve friends there, in New York... are they ok? Where they near the attack site?
An uncontrollable panic invades me and I call them on the phone… there is no answer in New York…
Suddenly a buzz fills the room…
I look at the screen, that looks to me as minuscule as I watch the first tower collapsing… and then... the second…
And the buzz turns into a clamour of angry voices towards the responsible, whose names were already mentioned, for such a tremendous incident…
Terror!! Those people trough themselves off the buildings, as if they could suddenly fly… they look like paper leaves in the wind… but it’s people!!!
I halt a few seconds to clear my mind and think… I’ll call their relatives… someone pick ups the phone, but the lack of news don’t reassure me… they haven’t been able to contact yet, the lines are overloaded…
Later, seemed like eternity, my mind rests as I confirm that at least my friends are ok - but the news is that thousands have died!!!
Thousands of people woke up for another ordinary morning in their lives… for some, too many, the future ended there… for others it was for ever altered, marked by the anguish and the guilt of having survived the impossible… a feeling of profound injustice… and impotence…
5 yEARS lATER…
After many dead in a war questing for the guilty… we are still insecure, overcome by the fear of yet another terrorist attack that may happen at any time… Nevertheless we keep on living, moving forward… almost indifferent to this quest for world domination… sounds like a cartoon… a superheroes comic strip… Supermans… and Lex Luthors… But we must keep the sales shares and spice up the story once in a while!
AND ABOVE ALL… RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE Here, on earth, in this life, the only we have and can recognize as such… everything else is beliefs, worth in itself, but not above itself nor above Common Sense. 18 agosto SummertimeSummertime,
